ATHENA (ATHINA) VORILLAS (BRIEF BIO)

Athena (Athina) Vorillas is a native New Yorker and U.S-trained journalist and publicist. Her career in media began at The New York Times Syndicate and The New York Times News Service.

Since then, she has worked every post in communications and has been an invited speaker on the subjects in Barcelona, Warsaw and Athens.

Her experience as a broadcast journalist; TV and radio producer; art director; publicist; project manager/events; and digital content creator; has led her to become a one-of-a-kind corporate communications consultant, namely in the lifestyle, travel and hospitality industries.

In 2004, seeking a change and challenge, she left her native New York and accepted a position with NBC Olympics to work in Athens, Greece. Shortly after that, she was hired by the City of Athens as Director of Public Relations for the city's official tourism agency.

Since then, she has been immersed in the travel and tourism industries and has helped destinations, other PR and tourism agencies and businesses, large and small, grow through insightful, tailored branding and communications campaigns.

Prior to working with the tourism office of the City of Athens, she was VP of International Business Development and Senior Account Executive for KB Network News, a leading U.S. Public Relations firm specializing in the food, luxury hospitality and lifestyle industries.
 
From 1996-2001 she was a reporter, producer and lifestyle host for Antenna Satellite Television and Radio, broadcasting to the national Greek-American community in both languages and producing two television lifestyle series, The Greek Palate & Greek.In Style.

As a journalist, one of the most challenging stories Ms. Vorillas had to cover was the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001.

A graduate of St. John University’s Journalism Program, Ms. Vorillas received a master’s degree from New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program in 2000.
